Fortunate noble ones of future generations, if you seek refuge in me, Orgyen, remain in a secluded place and give rise to the sorrow of impermanence and the weariness of cyclic existence. This is very important. Entrust yourself entirely to me with body, speech, and mind. Moreover, reflect that all the sources of hope and refuge are perfectly complete within me. Be aware that I am fully aware of all your joys, sorrows, and hopes. Give up accumulating wealth instead of making offerings and praises. With devoted body, speech, and mind, pray with this seven line supplication: ཧ ཨབའར ནའཡང འ འ བའ བ ངའམསཚམས HUNG OR GYEN YUL GYI NUB JANG TSHAM Hung! 7 The Seven Line Prayer to Guru Rinpoche འཇག བ ཡབནའ ནའཐམས འཅད འ ངའ འ བཏ བད ཏའ ད འཆརནའཔབའཆབ འཀ འས ས ནའཅ ངའག བ འབཇ འཐབ འཆརནའཇད ཐངཏ འཀ འས འད ངའཇ ད འཔ འཤབཏ ད འཔ འ བ ནའ བ འཀ འས བའཔའཚ ཏའབད ནའམསཇ འཏ བ འཇད རབ འཤ ནའཏ འཟབབའཕ འཐངཏ འཀ འཡངའཏ ར འ ཏ ངའབ འཏད མས འཔ ཤར འ བའབ བའ ནའ ངའར རའཆར ཆབ འཀ འད བངའཕ ཏའད རའད ངའ ཇ ད འཔ འཤབཏ ཅར འ བ Reciting this, supplicate again and again. Engender a strong heartfelt longing, bringing tears to your eyes. If you become tense through strong faith, push the air out from your lungs with a hocking sound and settle with clarity, gazing lucidly and openly without distraction. Is there any need to say that I will protect a child who prays like this? You will become an heir of the victorious ones of the three times. The most powerful is to abide in the awareness of your wisdom mind. It has the ability to stabilize your samadhi and expand your wisdom. By great selfarisen blessings, you will be liberated from the passions and be able to perform wisdom activities to eliminate others suffering. When you are transformed your perceptions of others will change, at the same time you will accomplish enlightened activities. All the sublime qualities will be perfected within you. Which is the most skillful method upadesha of self realizing ones own nature of wisdom and liberation from samsara. This is The Lord of All, which is stainless Dharmakaya. May my heartdisciples encounter this supreme liberating upadesha. In particular, because this seven line supplication that accomplishes my blessings is most profound, and is the foremost secret upadesha treasure, may it meet with the most compassionate great wisdom holder Chökyi Wangchuk. 10 Praise to Lama Vajrasattva བ མསའ འམས འ བའཡབནའ ནའ ན SAM GYIY MI KHYAB YÖN TEN DEN With noble qualities beyond conception, བ འམསཇ འས འ འཕཏའཇཚ འབས བད LA MAY KU LA CHHAK TSHAL TÖ To the body of the Lama, I prostrate and praise. བ འམསཇ འཏ ངའན འཚང འཔཇ འད བ ང LA MAY SUNG NI TSHANG PAY YANG The Lama's speech is the melodious voice of Brahma, ཇཏཏའམསརད འ རངའཏརཇ འསའད ངའ ན GAK MAY SENG GEY DRA DANG DEN Like a lion's roar that is unceasing, མསངའས རཏ འ འད ཏ འསཏའམསངད འཔ MU TEK RI DAK TRAK DZAY PA Terrifying the herds of Tirthakas, བ འམསཇ འཏ ངའ འཕཏའཇཚ འབས བད LA MAY SUNG LA CHHAK TSHAL TÖ To the speech of the Lama, I prostrate and praise. བ འམསཇ འཐངཏ འན འནམསའམསཁཇའཇད LA MAY T HUK NI NAM KHA DRA The mind of the Lama is like stainless sky, བད རའཏ འམས འགབཏའས བངའཔཇ འངངའ DÉ SAL MI TOK TONG PAY NGANG Abiding in the continuity of empty bliss, clarity, and no thoughts, 6

13 OFFERING PRAYERS ས བནའཔའབ འམསརད འ ང འར འ ནའཔབའཆར TÖN PA LA MÉ SANG GYAY RIN PO CHHÉ The precious Buddha, the supreme lord, ས བའཔའབ འམསརད འད མསའཆབ འ ནའཔབའཆར KYOB PA LA MÉ DAM CHHÖ RIN PO CHHÉ The precious holy Dharma, the supreme savior, ཇདརནའཔའབ འམསརད འད ཏརའཇད ནའ ནའཔབའཆར DREN PA LA MÉ GÉ DÜN RIN PO CHHÉ The precious Sangha, the supreme guide, ས བ འཏན འད ཀབནའམསཆབཏའཏ ངམསའ འམསཆབད འཔའཇབང KYAB NAY KÖN CHHOK SUM LA CHHÖ PA BUL To you, precious Triple Gems, the supreme objects of refuge, I make offerings. 9

14 Offering Prayers ཐབ འམསཁ འཐངཏ འར ར འཤ ཀཇ འ ཏ འ ངའཇཁ ང T HAB KHAY T HUK JEY SHAKYAY RIK SU T HRUNG By skillful means of compassion you were born in the lineage of the Shakyas, ཏཞནའ འམས འཐངབའབད ད འཀ འད པངའཇ བམས འཔ ZHEN GYIY MI T HUB DÜ KYI PUNG JOM PA Always triumphant over others and annihilating demonic forces, ཏ ར འ འལ ནའཔབའ འབང འབར ད འཔཇ འས SER GYI LHÜN PO TA BUR JI PAY KU Splendid golden body like Mount Meru, ཤ ཀཇ འར འཔ འཞབ འ འམསཆབད འཔའཇབང SHAKYAY GYAL PÖ ZHAB LA CHHÖ PA BUL At your lotus feet, King of the Shakyas, I make offerings. 10

15 བ འམསའར ངའཇབབད CALLING THE LAMA FROM AFAR ངའད བང འད ད འཔཇ འཇད བའས བངའ ཏརའ འབཞད འཔཇ འད ཀ འན NYING Ü DAY PAY DAB TONG GÉ SAR ZHAY PAY KYIL NA At the heart center of a blossoming thousand-petaled lotus of faith, གཏའཏ འ བ ནའ འ བ འབཞ ན ཇབ འམསརད འད ར འཔ འབཞ ཏ འཔཇ TAK TU JIN GYIY LOB ZHIN DRAL MÉ GYEY PAR ZHUK PAY You are always continuously blessing and joyfully abiding indivisibly. བའབད ཏའ རའ ངའཀའད པ ཇ ཏ འབ འཡརའཤར འར བའར ར KYAB DAK HÉ RU KA PAL JIK DRAL YÉ SHEY DOR JÉ All pervasive Lord, glorious Heruka, Fearless Wisdom Vajra, ཏངའ བད འར འཀ ནའངབའ བ ངའན འངར འཔའར རད འཔ GANG KHYÖ GYAL KÜN NGO WOR NYING NAY NGEY PA NYÉ PAY You are the essence of all Victorious Ones, I found this certainty from my heart. བཟབབད འམསརད འཏད ངའབཇ འཤ ཏ འཀ ར རའཏཅ ཏའཏ བ འབའཇད རབ འན ZÖ MÉ DUNG WAY SHUK KYIY TSÉ CHIK SOL WA DEB NA By the strength of eager enthusiasm if praying one-pointedly, ད བངའ བ ནའད ངབ འག བའབད ད འར བད ཏའར ད འས ནའག བ འམསང ད འཅ ཏ WANG JIN NGÖ DRUB DÜ TSIY DAK GYÜ MIN DROL DZÖ CHIK By the nectar of empowerment, blessing and siddhi, may the Buddha nature of my mind be ripened and liberated. 11

16 Calling the Lama From Afar འཅངའབ འམསའདནའན ར ངའཇ བད འཇབའད བད འ བ འཀངའ HA CHANG LA MA DREN NAY GYANG BÖ O DÖ BÖ KYANG Fervently remembering my Lama, though I call from afar with lamentation, ངའ རམས འཏཉ ཏའམསའཇད འ བ འམསའ བཏ འ ངའམསའར རད RANG SEM NYUK MA DI LAY LA MA LOK SU MA NYÉ Other than my own continuous mind I could not find my Lama. ཏ བ འབའཏད བའ བ ཇ འཡང འད ངའ ཇད རབ འཔཇ འམསཁནའཔབའམསརད འན SOL WA DAB JAY YUL DANG DEB PAY KHEN PO MÉ NA Since there is no object to pray to and no subject who is praying, ཏ བ འབའཇད རབ འ མསའབ བ འ བ ཇང ནའར བ འབཅབ འམས འཅ འ བ རད SOL WA DEB NYAM LÖ JAY DZIN TSOL CHÖ MAY CHI JÉ Why should I pretend to pray with contrived thoughts and grasping effort? ཏ འ འངབ འབཟབངའམསརད འཔཇ གབཏའབ འ ཏའས བངའར རནའཔ SAL LA NGÖ ZUNG MÉ PAY TOK DRAL RIK TONG JEN PA Clear, unidentifiable, naked empty awareness, free of conception, ཇད འཀའད བནའ འབ འམས ཡརའཤར འར བའར ར འངབའཤར DI KA DÖN GYI LA MA YÉ SHEY DOR JER NGO SHEY This is the absolute Lama. I recognize that my Root Guru, Vajra Primordial Wisdom, ཡརའཡ ནའངངའཏན འཆརནའཔབ ངའབབ འཏད བད འམསཇ འཏཞ འ YÉ YIN NGANG NAY CHHEN PO RANG BAB DÖ MAY ZHI LA Is, from the beginning, continuously abiding in the basic state of supreme primordial self-nature. 12

17 Calling the Lama From Afar ར ངའན འཇ བད འཀངའམསའད ཏབ ཇག མསའན འབཙ འཀངའ མསའད ཏབ GYANG NAY BÖ KYANG MA GÖ DRAM NAY TSAL KYANG MA GÖ There is no need to call from afar. There is no need to search nearby. བ བའཇད འཇངབའཆབའཏཤ འ ང ཇཁ འཔཇ འམས ངའཡངའམས འག ཏ LO DAY UB CHUB SHIY SU T HRUL PAY MING YANG MI DRAK All immeasurable phenomena are contained in mind beyond conception. In the nature of wisdom, there is not even the name of delusion, མ འངནའཇད འཔའ འཅ མས མསའ ད འབད རའཀ བངའཆརནའཔབ NYA NGEN DAY PA TA CHI NYAM NYI DÉ LONG CHHEN PO Without doubt, one is free from suffering; this is the great profound ecstasy of evenness. ཏངའཤ འཆབ འས ཇ འཡབའ ངའ ཏ ད འ བའབ འབཇ འ བ ནའ བ GANG SHAR CHHÖ KÜ YO LANG TAY SO DRAL WAY JIN LAB Whatever phenomena arise are the display of Dharmakaya. ར འཇ བ བ འ ངའ འཞ ཏ འཇད ཨའ བའངབའམསཚ འཆརཇབ NAL JOR NYING LA ZHUK DI A HO NGO TSAR CHHÉ-O I, a practitioner, receive this blessing free from aims, in my heart. How supremely wondrous! ཞར འཔཇངའ ངའ ད འ འམསངབནའཔ འམསབ འཔཇ འབ བའག བ འད ཏརའབའ ཏ འ ནའམསའབད རའཆརནའཆབ འསབནའ ན འར ངའཇ བད འཀ འཏ བ འཇད རབ འཇད འ འབངའཞ ཏའད ཏབ འཞར འཡངའཡངའབས འབའཡ ད འ འ བཅཏའཔཇ འཐབཏ རའཆ འཡརའཇ བཏའས འཔཇ འས འ ནའཔབའཆར འཏ ངའཏ འཏ བ འབ བའཔའ འ བགརནའན འཇ ཏ འབ འཡརའཤར འར བའར ར འཤ འམས འབ འཔའད ཏར This was written spontaneously by Jigdral Yeshe Dorje according to the wishes of the noble lady Dechen Chödrön, who has virtue, intelligence, 13

19 བད ད འཇ བམས འཏ ར འཏ འས བནའཇག འངཏའཇད བནའབས འཔའབཞ ཏ A CONCISE RECITATION OF THE PRELIMINARY PRACTICE OF THE NEW TREASURES OF DUDJOM ད ངའཔབའསབ འབའབ བའ བཏའར མསའབཞ ཇ འངཏའཇད བནའན The Preparation Reciting the Four Contemplations that Turn the Mind ནའམསབ བས འམསརད འཏ ནའ འམསཏབནའཔབའབ འམསའམས རན NA MO LU MÉ TEN GYI GÖN PO LA MA KHYEN Homage! I beseech you to know me, Lama, deceitless constant protector. ད འཇ བ བ འཇད འན འཤ ནའཏ འར རད འཔ འད ཀཇ DAL JOR DI NI SHIN TU NYÉ PAR KA The eases and obtainments of this precious human rebirth are extremely difficult to find. ས ར འཚད འམས འགཏའཇཆ འབཇ འཆབ འཅནའཡ ན KYEY TSHAY MI TAK CHHI WAY CHHÖ CHEN YIN Whoever is born possesses the phenomena of impermanence and death. ད ཏརའས ཏའ འཀ འར འཇབ འབས འབའམསརད GÉ DIK LAY KYI GYU DRAY LU WA MÉ The cause and result of virtuous and non-virtuous actions cannot be denied. ཁམས འཏ ངམསའཇཁབ འབའས ཏའབས འར འམསཚ འངངའ KHAM SUM KHOR WA DUK NGAL GYA TSHÖ NGANG The continuous character of the three realms of samsara is an ocean of suffering. 15

20 Concise Recitation of the Preliminary Practice དནའན འབད ཏའབ བའཆབ འ འཇ ར འབ འཤབཏ DREN NAY DAK LO CHHÖ LA GYUR WAR SHOK By remembering this, may my mind turn to the holy Dharma. ཅར འ ནའཏངའམསངའབར བད འ འབ བའསང Thus, reciting as many times as possible, train the mind. ཏ འཔའས བནའཇག བའད ངབ འ ད ངའཔབའས བ འ ངའཇག བའབའན མསད ནའ འནམསའམསཁ འ ས བ འཡང འམསཆབཏའཏ ངམསའཀ ནའཇད འཀ འངབའ བའར འབཇ འབ འམསའ ད འག འ ངའ ནའཔབའཆརཇ འར མསའཔ འ མསངབནའ ངམསའད འབཞ ཏ འཔ འམསབ འ The Main Preliminary Practice First, Refuge Imagine that one's root Lama whose essence embodies the Three Jewels, the sources of refuge, appears in the form of Guru Rinpoche in the sky in front of one. ཇད འབཟབངའ བ ངའཆབའ ངའཔབའམསའཐབའབ DI ZUNG JANG CHHUB NYING PO MA T HOB BAR From this moment until attaining the essence of enlightenment, བ འམསའད ཀབནའམསཆབཏའཏ ངམསའ འས བ འ ངའམསཆ LA MA KÖN CHHOK SU LA KYAB SU CHHI I take refuge in the Lama, who is the Three Jewels. ཞར འཕཏའད ངའསཏའས རའཅ འ འ ངའབར བད Thus, with prostrations, recite this as much as possible. ཏ འཔའ རམས འབས རད འཔའན ས བ འཡང འད པངའཔབ འཏ བ འ ར Second, Develop Bodhicitta (The Heart-Mind of Enlightenment) Praying to the object of refuge as one's witness: 16

21 Concise Recitation of the Preliminary Practice ད འན འབཟབངའས རའཇཁབ འབའམསའས བངའབ DA NAY ZUNG TÉ KHOR WA MA TONG BAR From now until samsara becomes empty, མསའ ར འ རམས འཅནའཀ ནའ འཕནའབད རའབས བ MA GYUR SEM CHEN KÜN GYI P HEN DÉ DRUB I shall strive for the benefit and happiness of all sentient beings, who have all been my mother. ཅར འ བ ངའཆབའཀ འ རམས འ འབ བའསངའ Thus, train the mind in bodhicitta. ཏ ངམསའཔའཚ ཏ འབ ཏ འམསཎ འཇབང འབའན མསཎ འཚ མསའབངའད ངབ འ ངའབཤམས འཔའད པར འ མསཚ ནའན Third, the Accumulation of Merit Through Mandala Offerings: While actually arranging piles of substance symbolizing the mandala: ཚ འ བ འཀ ནའ འ ང འད ངའ བང འསབད འད པ TSHÉ RAB KÜN GYI LÜ DANG LONG CHÖ PAL My bodies, wealth, and glories of all my lives, ཚ ཏ འཏ འ བཏ འཕ འད ཀབནའམསཆབཏའཏ ངམསའ འཇབང TSHOK NYIY DZOK CHHIR KÖN CHHOK SUM LA BUL I offer to the Three Jewels in order to complete the two accumulations (merit and wisdom). ཞར འམསཎ འཏངའམསངའཇབང Offer mandalas many times. 17

40 Concluding Prayers ཚ འད ར འས ད འཔཇ འར འམསཚ འབར འབ འཤབཏ TSHÉ DER SI PAY GYA TSHO GAL WAR SHOK In that life may I cross the ocean of samsara. ས ད འཔ འད མསའཔཇ འཆབ འ བའས བནའ བ རད འཅ ངའ SI PAR DAM PAY CHHÖ RAB TÖN JÉ CHING Revealing supreme teachings to samsaric beings, ཏཞནའཕནའབས བའ འས བའང འམསརད འཔ འཤབཏ ZHEN P'HEN DRUB LA KYO NGAL MÉ PAR SHOK May I make the effort to benefit them, never tired or sad. བ འཆརནའཏཞནའད བནའཕབཏ འ འམསརད འཔའཡ LAB CHHEN ZHEN DÖN CHHOK RIY MÉ PA YIY By great waves of benefit for others, without discriminating between beings, ཐམས འཅད འཕམསའཏཅ ཏའ ང འར འཐབའཔ འཤབཏ T'HAM CHAY CHHAM CHIK SANG GYAY T'HOB PAR SHOK May all of them attain the state of fully enlightened Buddha, altogether. ཀ བངའཆརནའཔཇ འཏ ངའ Written by Omniscient Longchenpa (Translated by Thinley Norbu Rinpoche). Of course, those who are nihilists have no belief in karma, virtue, or the Triple Gems; that is why they are nihilists. They think only about this momentary life and that it is not necessary to consider previous births or future reincarnations since they do not believe in them. According to Buddhist theory, however, until one attains the state of enlightenment, one must believe mind is continuous even though one does not see the mind's continuity. Since the mind is continuous, phenomena will be continuous, so the phenomena of suffering and happiness are continuous. Sometimes there are phenomena of suffering and sometimes there are phenomena of happiness, but either way, these phenomena 36

41 Concluding Prayers must change. In order not to circle like this between suffering and happiness unceasingly, it is necessary to be liberated to reach unchangeable, flawless ecstasy; and in order to be liberated one needs virtue or merit until the habits of dualistic mind are exhausted. So, one needs to believe in abstaining from negative karma and increasing positive karma and the accumulation of merit and wisdom. In order to make accumulation, first one needs to obtain a precious human birth with the seven qualities of the high realms of gods and humans. PRAYER FOR THE PEOPLES OF THE EARTH ཇངམསའག ངའས འད ངའཡང འཁམས འཇད འད ཏའཏ DZAM LING CHI DANG YUL KHAM DI DAK TU At this very moment, for the peoples and nations of the earth, ནད འམསངཏའམསཚ ནའ བཏ འས ཏའབས འམས ངའམས འག ཏ NAY MUK TSHÖN SOK DUK NGAL MING MI DRAK May not even the names of disease, famine, war and suffering be heard, ཆབ འ ནའབ བད འནམས འད པ འཇ བ བ འཏབངའད འཇཕར CHHÖ DEN SÖ NAM PAL JOR GONG DU P HEL But rather may pure conduct, merit, wealth and prosperity increase, གཏའཏ འབཀ འཤ འབད རའ རཏ འཕངནའཚ ཏ འཤབཏ TAK TU TRA SHIY DÉ LEK P'HÜN TSHOK SHOK And may supreme good fortune and well-being always arise! 37
