New modifications The Union Home Ministry has increased the powers of the Border Security Force (BSF) to arrest, search and seize within 50 km from the international boundary in Assam, West Bengal and Punjab. Earlier, this range was 15 km. At the same time, the Ministry has reduced BSF s area of operation in Gujarat from 80 km from the border, to 50 km. 30 COP26 climate conference: Article in News Context:The UK will host the COP 26 UN Climate Change Conference from October 31 to November 12. This year marks the 26th Conference of Parties (thus the name COP26) and will be held in the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow. What is the Conference of Parties? COP comes under the United Nations Climate Change Framework Convention (UNFCCC) which was formed in The UNFCCC was established to work towards stabilisation of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere. COP members have been meeting every year since 1995 (COP1 was held in 1995 in Berlin).

36 One Sun One World One Grid Article in News The Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has addressed the Ministerial session of the Green Grids Initiative-One Sun One World One Grid (OSOWOG) Northwest Europe Cooperative Event. The mega plan of OSOWOG calls for transnational electricity grid supplying solar power across the globe. It will connect 140 countries through a common grid that will be used to transfer solar power. The idea was first floated by PM Modi in 2018 during the first assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA). The vision behind the OSOWOG mantra is the Sun never sets and is a constant at some geographical location, globally, at any given point of time. With India at the fulcrum, the solar spectrum can easily be divided into two broad zones viz:
