2 My dear parish family, PASTOR S CORNER This week, we celebrate NATIONAL MARRIAGE WEEK (FEBRUARY 7 14). It is a time set aside for us to reflect on the great gift of married life, but also an opportunity to look for ways to strengthen and reinforce marriages and family life. Pope Benedict XVI often noted that marriage is a gospel; it is part of the good news of God to the world. We must recognize that the devil always seeks to go after those fundamental things that are good, beautiful, and essential to the stability of the human person. That is the reason why he continues to attack married life vehemently. Marriage is God s gift to humanity and must never be lived apart from God. When couples pray together, they invite God into every aspect of their married life. Prayer is the glue that holds marriage together. No human commitment of such gravity and magnitude is possible without God s abiding grace. Therefore, by praying together, every married couple affirms that their marriage is a gift from God and only his merciful grace can guide them to enjoy the fulfillment God intended for married life. In conjunction with prayer, every marital commitment must be grounded in sacrifice. Jesus reminds us in John s Gospel that sacrifice is intrinsic to the nature of love. Sacrifice and love are two sides of the same coin. He demonstrated this with Calvary s cross. The Cross of Jesus is an invitation, but also a reminder that the shadow and consequences of sin lurk over every aspect of human life. Marriage is no exception. Sacrifice, therefore, becomes an expression of the very gift that makes marriage a part of the good news. When couples learn to suffer together, make sacrifices for each other, and support each other through turbulent times, they truly fortify and strengthen the bond that grows between them. This is the good news. It is an example that our world needs so desperately, and this testimony of faith can make every marriage a light in our sometimes darkened and gloomy world. May God bless every married couple in our parish with the grace of perseverance and love. God bless you and see you at Mass. Fr. Henry Mi querida familia parroquial, ESQUINA DEL PARROCCO Esta semana celebramos la SEMANA NACIONAL DEL MATRIMONIO (del 7 al 14 de Febrero). Es un momento para que reflexionemos sobre el gran regalo de la vida matrimonial, pero también una oportunidad para buscar formas de fortalecer y reforzar los matrimonios y la vida familiar. RESPECT LIFE ADORATION & ROSARY Join us to pray THE RESPECT LIFE ADORATION AND ROSARY on the first Thursday of every month at 7:00pm in the chapel in Henderson Hall MIDDLE SCHOOL CATHOLIC FEST MARCH 7, 2020 The St. George Middle School Youth Group will once again be participating in this Archdiocesan-wide event. The theme for this year s all-day event is You Belong and it will take place at Notre Dame Academy in Duluth. This annual gathering, which includes nearly 1,000 middle schoolers, is a wonderful day of fellowship, fun, and faith, which includes games, Eucharistic Adoration, national speakers, music, inflatables, cotton candy and snow cones, and a closing vigil mass, presided over by the bishop. Registration forms for this event are available during Middle School Youth Group, which meets Sundays from 4:00pm until 6:00pm, at the Faith Formation table, or in the Parish Office. All Registration forms are due on or before Sunday, February 9. There is NO COST for this event. If you are a parent and are able to transport middle schoolers to this event, please let the Faith Formation Department know by the deadline above.

Amen. ELIJAH CUP The Elijah Cup is a ministry of prayer. During the 10:00am Mass, an individual or family receives this consecrated chalice, brings it to their home, and places it in a place of honor. It provides a focal point as the family prays for vocations to the priesthood, religious life, and holy marriages. After praying for vocations each day that week, the Elijah Cup is returned to the church, so that another family can bring it to their home the following Sunday. Consider bringing the Elijah Cup into your home. You can use the recommended prayers that come with the chalice, as well as the Rosary, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and other prayers of your choice. Every vocation is a gift from God which must be explored by prayer and merited by the witness of a holy life.
