Recently, Russia has declared a state of emergency in its Krasnoyarsk Region after a power plant fuel leaked causing 20,000 tonnes of diesel oil to escape into the Ambarnaya River. Krasnoyarsk Region is located in the vast and sparsely populated Siberian peninsula and the Ambarnaya river is part of a network that flows into the environmentally sensitive Arctic Ocean. Kuwait wants to slash the migrant proportion of its population from 70 per cent to 30 per cent to "resolve the demographic imbalance - Kuwait prime minister said Kuwait shall start relying on its citizens to replace foreign workers. Out of 4.8 million inhabitants, some 3.3 million are foreign nationals and 1.45 million are Kuwaitis. And The ideal demographic situation would be that Kuwaitis make up 70 percent of the population and non- Kuwaitis 30 percent.
Why Kuwait wants expatriate? Like its Gulf Arab neighbours, Kuwait has a large foreign population mostly made up of Middle Eastern and Asian workers Kuwait's state budgets have been slammed by tumbling oil prices sparked by the novel coronavirus pandemic, pushing it to seek ways to provide more jobs to its own citizens. Kuwait Airways said last week it would lay off 1,500 expatriate employees due to "significant difficulties" caused by the pandemic.
