In a major crackdown on Chinese mobile companies, the Income Tax department is conducting searches on leading Chinese mobile companies across the country. Mobile companies Oppo, Xiaomi, and One Plus are being covered in the searches. Over 30 dozen premises are being raided in searches. Raids are ongoing in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Greater Noida, Kolkata, Guwahati, Indore and some other places. The search was conducted based on the intelligence inputs of huge tax evasion by these Chinese mobile firms. The firms were under the radar for a long time and when the I-T department got concrete intelligence of tax evasion, these companies were raided. A substantial amount of digital data evidence that points at tax evasion has been found and seized. After the order from the RBI, the merchants and payment gateways will have to delete all the information stored on their servers. This means that a user will have to enter the full card details to make payments on merchant websites. Banks have started informing their customers about the changes that are coming into effect. One of the leading private banks HDFC has been sending text messages to its customers that they will either have to enter full card details or opt for tokenisation.

What is tokensation? According to the current system, the execution of transaction is based on the correct values of 16-digit card number, the card expiry date, the CVV and the one-time password or OTP (in some cases transaction PIN too). Tokenisation refers to replacement of actual card number with an alternative code, called the tokens. It is unique for a combination of card, token requestor (i.e. the entity which accepts request from the customer for tokenisation of a card and passes it on to the card network to issue a corresponding token) and device (referred hereafter as identified device ).

How is tokenisation safer? The report has revealed the latest report published by the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada), which has put India into the top-three of the world s biggest violators behind Russia (167) and Italy (157). Brazil (78) is at fourth and Iran (70) fifth positions. In 2019, 152 (17 per cent of the world total) Anti-doping Rule Violations (ADRVs) were reported in India. The maximum dope offenders are from bodybuilding followed by weightlifting (25), athletics (20), wrestling (10), and boxing.
