His disciples in the boat with him are frightened. They wake Jesus and ask him to do something. Jesus rebukes the wind, and once again all is quiet. Jesus then questions the disciples: Why are you terrified; do you not yet have faith? What about us? All of us have to face storms in our lives. All of us are occasionally frightened that the storms of life will overpower us and we will sink. How strong is our faith? God does not promise that we will not have to face the storms. We know we will. What God promises is that we will never be alone. God will be with us through the darkest times of our lives. How strong is our faith? PASTORAL STAFF Rev. Macri The Diocesan Appeal, previously called the Bishop s Appeal, is being run much different this year than previous years. There is no in-pew solicitation this year. All requests for donations came directly from Albany. Also, it is a goal to reach and if we don t reach our goal the Church does not have to pay the full amount. Hopefully all of you have probably already received a request to give to this appeal. If you have received your solicitation already and responded, thank you for your contribution. If you have not yet contributed to The Diocesan Appeal you still have time to send in your donation. As of June 14, 2021 St. John the Baptist has a total of $10, Sts. Anthony and Joseph has a total of 56 pledges, for a total of $5, The Diocesan Appeal closes on June 30, Thank you for your support. SOLEMNITY of the NATIVITY of St. JOHN THE BAPTIST St. John the Baptist challenges us Christians to the fundamental attitude of Christianity total dependence on the Father, in Christ. Except for the Mother of God, no one had a higher function in the unfolding of salvation. Yet the least in the kingdom, Jesus said, is greater than he, for the pure gift that the Father gives. The passion as well as the austerity of John, his fierce courage in denouncing evil all stem from his fundamental and total placing of his life within the will of God. The Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist is Thursday, June 24 th. All bulletin, pulpit announcements, calendar or Parish Hall events need to be ed to: sts.anthonyandjoseph@gmail.com or a hard copy must be dropped off at the office. No announcements or calendar events will be taken over the phone. If you plan on using the hall for an event or meeting you must put it on the main calendar at the Parish Office. 5 PASTORAL NETWORK Beginning this weekend our Pastoral Network of parishes begins. Mass times at St. John the Baptist and Sts. Anthony and Joseph do not change. The other two parishes making up the network each lose a Mass. The new Mass times for those parishes were distributed to all registered parishioners at St. John s and Anthony and Joseph. Throughout the summer those other two parishes will also have Communion Services. This is being done on a temporary basis because of the limitations of space in those churches due to Covid-19 restrictions. Remember that attending Mass is always the preference. The Mass times have been set to allow people to attend Mass at any of the four parishes in the network unless unable to because of space limitations. FATHER S DAY Father's Day is a day set aside to honor fatherhood and paternal bonds, as well as the influence of fathers in society. Father's Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June in the United States. In Catholic countries of Europe, it is been celebrated on March 19, the Solemnity of St. Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. St. Joseph is every man s, and every father s, example of what it means to be a man. Joseph was always there to protect and take care of Mary and Jesus. May all fathers do the same. FATHERS DAY PRAYER Heavenly Father, you entrusted your Son Jesus, the child of Mary, to the care of Joseph, an earthly father. Bless all fathers as they care for their families. Give them strength and wisdom, tenderness and patience. Support them in the work they have to do, protecting those who look to them, as we look to you, for love and salvation, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
