2 The Editors Note Greetings and gratitude to the wonderfully fabulous people who have taken out time to view the efforts of our Heritans! Here at Heritage, we strongly believe in starting new stories even if our previous endings were not so enlightening. With the experiences that are hurling towards us, like the monumental one of a decade change and a not so delightful one of the Covid-19 Pandemic, the new beginners are all set for one exhilarating ride filled with excitement, thrill, anxiety, mistakes, hesitancy and relief. We're taught to look at the bright side of things, so we'll do just that... We'll shine through all the fog and spread warmth through all the cold... We'll beat the obstacles in our way and emerge as game changers of the society. The spirit that is surging through us all currently, is exhibited in this last edition of the newsletter of session You'll go through it feeling pride and joy at the innovation and emotional depth amongst our learners. We hope that this little effort inspires you to make a pronounced change in your attitude towards endings and beginnings just like we did! So, fasten your seatbelts ladies and gentlemen, for the last ride of this session! 3 Fields of Achievements On 20th January, Monday, a book launch was hosted in UNESCO, Chanakyapuri, where pupils from all over the country came to witness the first of its type- The winners of national essay writing competition for the youth of the country. In partnership with Takhte, UNESCO gave the students a platform to express their deepest, innermost emotions and beliefs through writing. The writings varied from the most heart wrenching encounters with depression and harassment to tales of complete and utter boredom during the infamous history class. Amongst the 400 of those magnificent and somewhat extravagant write ups, the 100 best got selected. Our school won 10 pages in the 300+ pages' book- 'Inside the Millennial Mind, Essays by a Hundred Young Indians'. Rishita Pamecha, Salman Shafi Khan (IX); Khushi (X) and Manan Jain (XI) and I Shradhya Verma (IX) were the winners from our school. It was a truly an enlightening experience to see students from all over the country gather together praising each other for their achievements. Mr. Eric Falt, the director and UNESCO representative to Bhutan, India, the Maldives and Sri Lanka along with Goldie Kasturia, the founder of Takhte facilitated the students, with pride. 6 Kalaatmak- Our students version On the chilly morning of December 21, as the negligible sunlight kissed the turf of Heritage, excitement and joy flooded the school as Heritans marched into the school filled with exultation and ambition to create one of the best memories of their school lives. This year, the Kalaatmak was not just a carnival organized by the students, for the students. Carrying the theme of Folk Art of India', it was a perfect blend of the immensely diverse and rich cultures of our country. As students, teachers and parents left all their worries and problems at the front gate of the school and entered the building with excitement, the school became as lively as the Laburnum top upon the arrival of the Goldfinch. The event was full of games, live performances and open mic performances by the visitors. But the performances that made every attendee stop and watch were the dance performances, inspired by the distinct cultures of the country which are performed in the different regions of the country. The folk dance of Goa, The Koli dance of Maharashtra, the folk dance of West Bengal and Orissa were all dazzlingly performed by the young learners of our school ranging from the primary to the senior and their performances received standing ovations, endless claps and sometimes even whistles from the crowd. Cultural diversity was made the primary focus of the Kalaatmak, so much so that even the scripts of the anchors included dialogues written in different languages. The event was a grand success which will definitely leave behind sweet memories for us to cherish when we get enrolled in the busy lives that the world has planned for us to lead. I extend my thanks to our beloved Principal ma am for giving us this forum to live out our culture and all the teachers and staff members that spent countless hours of hard work to make this event the grand success that it was. -Shaan Bazaz (XI-B)

7 My school, The Heritage School Vasant Kunj, organises a school carnival or Kalatmak every year in the month of December. It often organises an annual school carnival, which gives a needed break to the students from the hectic study schedule. It also gives teachers a chance to express their creativity and strengthen their bond with their students. This year s carnival (2019), was very well planned by the school management, teachers and high school students. Like every year, this year s theme was folk art. A number of stalls were set for the entertainment of the visitors. Some had interesting, eye-hand coordination games on the other hand some had food stalls serving delectable food. Morning started with performances by teachers and was continued by performances of students as well as bands. It was an extremely amusing experience to be a part of, especially with my friends. -Tamanna Juneja (VIII-B)

8 I m not going to lie; music festivals are definitely my thing. I have been to many festivals around Asia and, Kalaatmak 2020 is one of the best. I, myself worked on one of the game stalls and it was stupendous seeing all the people that showed up and I could see that they were having a phenomenal time. The games were extremely fun, vibrant and simple in their own unique ways. The food stalls were spectacular, and there was so much variety of food that was great for all young and old. Also, there were delicious options ranging from fast food companies to home-cooked food made by the students themselves. There were even stalls selling things like colorful pouches, creatively designed keychains, beautiful cup holders and much more. All that with the live music from my friends and classmates really made it an amazing Kalaatmak. -Sara Udenia (VII-B)

9 What s up? Khushio ki Bahar The Joy of Giving The learners of Grade IX participated in Khushio Ki Bahar" initiative undertaken by an NGO, Family Vision. A Fun filled carnival was organized in which the children from disadvantaged socio-economic background got an opportunity to enjoy a day of fun, food, games, rides, music and dancing. The venue for the event was Tagore International School, East of Kailash. Our grade IX learners had enthusiastically put up a game stall. It was a satisfying experience for them to handover gifts to the children who came to their stall to play game. The smile that their efforts brought on the faces of these children was absolutely priceless!

10 The Unidentified Motive of Children s Day Children s day is vibrantly celebrated in India on the 14 th of November. Even though the day holds minimum historic allusion, it is overtly symbolic of the Birth Anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The prime minister had reserved in his heart a special place for the children of the nation. The Children of India", in his words are the engines that will empower, enlighten and construct the future of the country. Given his love for children he appealed to the people to celebrate his special day as a special day of all the children of the country. Mostly all of the schools in India and multiple residential areas in India celebrate this day by organizing events, plays and multiple other fun activities. However, amidst the fun and joy, the actual and rather serious motive behind the celebration of Children s Day is left Unidentified. The day is a reminder that every child deserves education, nurturing and the best of everything. They are the building blocks of the nation and hence, the future of the nation depends how well they are brought up. By making children aware of their rights and by providing them with the appropriate knowledge that will enable them to defend themselves when exposed to the cruel, hard world. The former honorable prime minister envisioned an India with a strong foundation and that could only be possible when the young learning population of India is preserved, protected and defended. That is why every single school in India must hold up campaigns and awareness programmes to make the children, the parents and following them, the entire population of India awake, aware and alert. 13 A memorable trip to Jim Corbett It all started on 1st February, when a Rocksport guide took a session with us and briefed us about the trip. We all were really excited as we knew that this would be our last school trip. Initially we all were dismayed by the fact that the trip was only going to last for two days. However, these two days proved to be the best days of our school lives. After a month, the day to board the buses arrived. All students got up before sunrise for probably the first time in their lives. Everyone was geared up, with their rucksacks on and were brimming with laughter. I had never seen so much enthusiasm in students, at 5 o'clock in the morning. The journey commenced as we waved goodbye to our parents through the bus windows. On the way we chit-chatted, joked, played UNO and Antakshari and shared food, however the journey proved to be too long and half of us slept in the middle to regain our sapped energies. On reaching our campsite, we all were once again ebullient and it felt that the long journey did little to dampen our ardour. We all were allotted roommates and room numbers and were given time to rest and get accustomed to the scenic place. The air at the camp had a rainbow swirl, as if bright inks were dropped into a current with precision. On the skin it felt as silk, cool and smooth. It edged around fingers as if it were water in some magic wishing well, and it's freshness was more than enough to give us a break from our recently concluded final examinations. The view of the mountains added to the beauty of the place and we couldn't resist clicking some photographs. Dream, explore and discover- the journey to Jim Corbett We had a scrumptious and delectable lunch, made from freshly cut vegetables from the village nearby. After having lunch, we were divided into two groups, the Blue Battalions and the White Tigers (which was the better one because it had me in it) and the activities began. The activities were pretty different from what you would do or engage in a city. We all made our own rafts, tried body surfing (which was the most adventurous part of the trip) and did zip lining on day 1. Then we engaged in some camp games, which led to a couple of friendly fights between the teams, but it was fun. In the evening we had reflection sessions, had dinner and then we had a bonfire in which one of the rocksport instructors played the guitar and we sang along to add to the blissful night. Talking about the night sky, it was completely different from the city sky. Stars filled the sky like small twinkling diamonds. It was the promise of life in the darkness, a sense of warmth springing from the cold. Finally, around 10 o clock, the teachers asked us to go to our rooms. We kept asking the teachers to let us stay in our friends' rooms for some time before we went to sleep but we finally had to go back to our rooms and could not stay up till late night. The following day, we all got up early and went for more activities, like pug mark study, and wildlife safari. Usually you don't spot a tiger, as they are pretty rare, but some of the students were able to spot it and kept bragging about it to tease the others. In the evening we again played some camp games, had a lantern walk exploring the jungle in the dark and had the usual reflection session followed by a delicious dinner and finally sat down for the bonfire.

14 The last day of the trip had arrived and we had to bid adieu to the camp. We started off the day with a sunrise trek. It was a captivating moment because most of us had never seen a sunrise from our balconies. We all took photographs and captured and captured the enchanting moment in our hearts. Even the routine tea with biscuits had a different taste and was made special by the countryside. Lastly, we all had a shower and packed our luggage to board the bus. We were awarded with chocolates and some prizes like the best journal, best camper, the neatest room The return journey was full of entertainment, non-stop chit-chatting and some bickering too. There was a lot of argument on the songs played throughout the journey but that just added to the fun element. We finally reached the school in the evening and went and hugged our parents. If I were to describe the trip in the 3 words it would be 'adventurous, Insightful, and experiential', and it certainly made us all more self-dependent and added to our personal growth as well. This trip was one of the best trips I've ever been to, and I'll surely remember this experience for the rest of my life. Thank you to all school teachers and the Rocksport team. -Aryan Jhulka (XI-A)

15 Holi-The festival of joy and love Holi is also called the festival of love as it is one of the most revered and celebrated festivals of India. It is the day to express love with colours and it is a time to show affection. It is celebrated with utmost joy and enthusiasm and is certainly a day worth rejoicing. The Heritage family celebrates all the festival with pomp and show. To celebrate the colours of the beautiful relationship amongst our Heritage members, the teachers of our school created fondest memories by applying Chandan tikka to each other and dancing to the tune of Rang Barse. It was a phoolon ki holi for everyone. Our jovial and fun-loving Principal, Dr. Sunita Swaraj invited all the staff members and the support staff to dance to the beats of the music and play Holi with each other. Th vibrancy of colours brought smile on everyone s face and also a lot of positivity in our lives. After the long celebration, the teachers relished the lunch organised by our canteen staff with some delectable dishes, especially the scrumptious gujiya. The greatness of a culture can be found in its festivals The entire school environment was filled with the essence of festivity. Everyone played with utmost fervour and enthusiasm.

16 The Primary Colours Class III Culmination Our very enthusiastic learners of grade three organized their culmination in the last week of February. The students conducted exciting activities for their parents through which they shared their valuable learnings. The learners with their praise-worthy presentation skills kept each parent captivated and curious. The program commenced with an energizer in which parents stood in a circle while students gave instructions. However, the twist was that parents had to do the opposite of what was being instructed. This activity was a lot of fun. The next activity was Boojho toh Jaane (Muhavre), in which the parents were given placards with the pictorial representation of different muhavre. The parents had to guess the hindi muhavre. This activity was followed by an interesting game named taming the tables to recall tables of multiplication in an innovative manner. Next was debating/behes. Parents were divided in two teams where they were given a topic. Each parent had to share their argument for/against the motion which was announced by the children. Last but not the least Fastest Finger First was played on the lines of famous game Bingo in which clues were based on KYYS concepts. Before leaving, the parents wrote encouraging words as feedback for the children s presentation. Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere

17 Grade II Culmination Learners of grade 2 excitedly conducted various activities in the classroom for their culmination. They actively involved the audience i.e. the parents. A session full of fun, games and interaction provided a short glimpse of daily classroom activities to the parents. They not only enthusiastically participated but were also encouraged to work as a team amongst their respective groups. This session enlightened their understanding about how children imbibe various concepts and apply them in their daily lives. Bringing out the child within, the parents sang songs, had circle time, laughed, and shared with an immense joy about how happy they are with the fun way of learning in this session. With positive feedback, they expressed their hope for learning to remain the same in the years to come. Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other. ~John F. Kennedy~

18 Grade I Culmination Grade 1 learners had a wonderful culmination this year too. Learners were like teacher in role and took their parents through various concepts done throughout the year. The young learners themselves conducted quiz related to the EVS topics done in term 2, played word games, grammar games, math games, matra ke khel and had fun with craft activity as closure.

19 Grade I Excursion to Rail Museum The Heritage School, Vasant Kunj organized an educational trip to Rail Museum for the students of Grade 1 yesterday. The students were amazed to see a huge engine at the entrance gate that entranced the tiny tots and a wave of excitement shot through the group. Students were enthralled to see the exhibits of wagons, coaches and engines displayed in the exhibition hall. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the toy train ride and were particularly thrilled when the train passed through the tunnel. Students came back with a Pandora box of knowledge, which made the excursion fruitful and joyous.

20 Term 2 Culmination Pre-Primary Learners of Grade Pre-Primary-A demonstrated their understanding of different concepts covered in Term-2. This interactive Culmination event provided our learners an opportunity to interact, share and dialogue with parents. Truly an experience where learning was fun. Children learn as they play. 21 Culmination of Preschool The culmination of grade preschool was based on the learning journey of the language, numeracy and EVS concepts integrated with drama for learning activities. The learners felt elated while playing and describing the sensorial objects in the mystery box followed by Rasgulla activity and letter box alphabet game. Parents enjoyed observing their young ones performing enthusiastically.

22 Grade II Field Trip On 25th February, our School organized an educational trip to the Nehru Planetarium for Grade 2 students. LEARNING OBJECTIVES 1. Students will have an understanding about the Planets, Solar System, and Constellation etc. 2. Student will identify the importance of movements of the Earth, further relating these movements to seasons and also the cause of day & night. PRE-WORK The students were given worksheets wherein they got to know the facts of the planet Earth, had to unscramble the name of eight planets and write the names of the planets in the correct order, to which they initially got confused. OBSERVATIONS They had the opportunity to visit the Nehru Memorial Museum where they got a chance to witness the life history of Jawaharlal Nehru in the form of books, articles, pictures, scriptures etc. Next they proceeded to visit the museum for the much- awaited movie in the Sky Theatre. They saw and heard about the constellations, stars, planets, galaxies, etc. The movie also showcased the arrangement of planets, position of stars and other interesting facts about the galaxy. The trip proved to be an enjoyable learning experience POST WORK After their visit to Nehru Planetarium the children got a clear understanding on the factors that support the life on Earth. They were now able to write the correct order of the planets in The Solar System without teacher s assistance. They even got to know more about Solar System and constellations. This day trip was a great way for students to interact, explore and enrich. Anything imbibed with joy, friends and knowledge completes the combination of real education. Special thanks to the Avani s Mother and Naomi s Mother of grade 2-c and Vaanya s Father of Grade 2-A for voluntarily participating and assisting the students and teachers in the whole trip.

23 VISIT TO NATIONAL SCIENCE CENTER The students of grade three visited the National Science Centre on 12 Feb 2020 as a part of their educational trip. The aim of the visit was to arouse curiosity in the minds of the young learners to explore new horizons in the field of science. Before and after the trip a lot of discussions as well as pre and post activities were conducted to ensure that their learning from the trip was meaningful. The students were taken on a guided tour of the galleries with their teachers. Few sections which students explored were -Water the elixir of life, Science and technology heritage, Human biology, Prehistoric life, Fun science, Space technology, Energy and transportation technology etc. The students also saw a 3D movie on solar system which was quite informative. 24 Preschool Field Trip The tiny explorers of preschool thoroughly enjoyed the trip to National Rail museum with long lasting memories and stimulating experiences adding value to their overall development The morning began with the circle time where the learners shared what will they like to do at the Rail museum and the circle time concluded with the dramatization of the rhyme Puffer Train followed by the rhyme wheels of the bus which they enjoyed singing in the bus At the museum learners experienced the ride on the joy train, observers various kinds of engine, locomotives and famous trains and were delighted to see the Rail garden too. As a concluding activity child illustrated their favorite experience at the museum. We are truly grateful for the cooperation extended by our parent volunteers who helped us to make this trip a success.

25 ASSEMBLIES VIII-C Assembly Violence is never the answer, SOLIDARITY is the key With this thought, the learners of Grade VIII-C on 28 January, 2020 presented an assembly on HUMAN SOLIDARITY DAY which promotes world Unity and diversity. The assembly began with a skit which showcased two situations; first a world at war and Second situation - The world celebrating its differences and standing in unison. This was followed by a poem, on the youth affected by the violence, written and presented by DIVA which touched the hearts of the young learners. The song Youth was mesmerizingly sung by Rajani and Aveer which voiced the emotions of those in pain. The enthusiastic performers then presented the dance which represented the unity in diversity and the sheer joy experienced by dancing together as ONE. After that the audience were made aware of the United Nations and the importance of Human Solidarity. The finale was heartwarming with HEAL the WORLD sung by all the learners of grade VIII-C. So powerful is the light of Solidarity that it can illuminate the whole earth.

26 VI-A Assembly World Laughter Day Very well said by Charles Dickens. The assembly was held on 16 January, 2020 by class VI A enthusiastic learners. It was on World laughter day which was an amazing presentation. Learner s grabbed this opportunity to spread awareness about laughter and its healing benefits. We came to know that laughter has ample amount of health benefits, like- Relaxes whole body, Boosts the immune system, Triggers the release of endorphins (feel good chemical), protects the heart, burns calories, lightens anger s heavy load and May even help us to live longer. The assembly was presented in such manner that everybody enjoyed it thoroughly. The presenters and actors were so spontaneous and extremely funny that everybody laugh-out-loud. Assembly started with Thought of the day followed by Jokes, facts, drama, song and many more presentations. The entire event was so well executed that our respected principal ma am could not stop herself from praising everyone the entire class and the class teachers. She also added that, The entire assembly was student led and the teachers were only playing the role of facilitators. Which is her vision for this organization. As we all know that since 1998, World Laughter Day is celebrated on the first week of May but it should not be restrict for one day. We should lough more often to spread happiness and positivity. If laughter cannot solve our problem, it can definitely DISSOLVE our problems; so that we can think clearly what to do about them. Keep on living, Keep on laughing! There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humor.
