SAINT JOSEPH CHURCH ORADELL/NEW MILFORD, NJ GENERAL ADMISSION ckets aer all Masses NEXT WEEKEND at the Main (Elm 2

TWENTY FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME ~ SEPTEMBER 16, 2018 The Rite of Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens (Rite of Acceptance) is the irst of the public ceremonies of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), for who are preparing for their Baptism and are beginning in the personal and community journey of becoming fully active and participating members of the Catholic Church. The Rite of Welcoming the Candidates (Rite of Welcoming) is for previously baptized and who are now ready to declare their intention to continue the journey toward full communion with the Catholic Church. At the Rite of Acceptance, become by expressing their desire, with the help of God, to embrace the Gospel message. Oficially welcomed by the Church as disciples and members of the community of faith, they are literally marked with the Cross of Christ to show that they now belong to Christ the Shepherd of souls. At the Rite of Welcoming, express their readiness to listen to the apostles instruction, gather with the worshipping community in prayer and join the community in the love and service of others. They are signed with the Cross to show that they belong to Christ. As these Catechumens and are part of our community, we as a parish family of faith pray for those who have gone through these Rites and as they continue their journey over the coming months, and we encourage all parishioners to reach out to them as fellow members of the household of Jesus Christ. Invite them to contact Fr. Anthony NOW so they can be part of our RCIA session that will be starting shortly. RCIA sessions begin THIS MONTH on selected Wednesday evenings and continue through Easter. Anyone who would like to learn more about becoming a fully initiated Catholic through the sacraments, or any Catholic adult who would like to be conirmed, is welcome to attend. For further information about RCIA, anyone interested may contact Fr. Anthony at fatheranthony@sjcnj.org or call 0148 x13. Just as the promises of the Inquirers and Candidates regarding Jesus Christ and his Church are essential to this rite, we as a community of faithful believers hold to the fundamental truths and teachings of Jesus Christ, the center of our faith, consistently professed by our Catholic Church through the ages: We believe in the dignity of the human person: God created us human beings in love, and everything God creates is good and created out of love. Although we have the capacity to sin, the Church believes in the dignity of the human person above all else. We believe that all creation, made by God, relects that Goodness infuses all of God s wondrous creation and we, as Catholics, see the world and its beauty, renewed by the Incarnation of Jesus Christ, as sacramental, the way of making God s goodness and love known in the world. We believe in stewardship and service as baptized disciples of Jesus Christ: Everything is given to us by God, including the gift of our faith, and it is our Catholic responsibility to share our faith in time, talent and treasure with others around us. We believe in the Holy Trinity: Our faith teaches us that God has revealed himself to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit and that, in and through this communion of knowledge and love, God has created us to share in that life. We believe in community and a living Church: As faithful believers, we are part of the living Body of Christ and, as such, are a true relection of the communal nature of the We believe in the Incarnation of Jesus Christ: We believe that God loved us his creation so much that he became human in the person of Jesus to walk among us. We believe in the communion of the saints: The Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, and all of the saints are models of faith who help and guide us in our daily lives. We believe in redemption and salvation through Jesus We believe in Jesus, the Son of God s cruciixion, death and resurrection, and hope that one day we will rise to new life with him. Whether we already are, or are about to become Catholic, it means we are of a faith community deeply rooted in the teachings and traditions of Jesus Christ, the very core of our Catholic faith and, it is through him that we are illed with hope and vibrancy to spread the Gospel message as his disciples to the whole world. Peace, Fr. Anthony 3

SAINT JOSEPH CHURCH ORADELL/NEW MILFORD, NJ Archdiocese of Newark September 16, 2018 My dear sisters and brothers in Christ, On September 16, the third Sunday of September, the U.S. Bishops call us to recognize and prayerfully support the catechetical ministry as we celebrate Catechetical Sunday. The theme chosen for this year is Enlisting Witnesses for Jesus Christ.... Essentially, a catechist is a witness to Jesus by what they teach but more importantly, by how they live. Bl. Pope Paul VI who will be canonized next month, wrote an Apostolic Exhortation, Evengelii Nuntiandi, published in December 1975. In it he said, Modern man listens more willingly to witnesses than to teachers, and if he does listen to teachers, it is because they are witnesses. (Evangelii Nuntiandi, no. 41). While those called to the catechetical ministry are recognized in a formal way for their ministry today we are reminded that, because of our baptism, each of us is called to be a witness to Christ and his Gospel. By the choices we make and the way we live we are giving witness to our faith in Jesus every day, at work, at home, in our friendships and in our families, we all share in the mission of Jesus. In our responsibilities as citizens we are also called to be witnesses for Jesus Christ in the ways we work to protect the earth and all who dwell in it, to protect those who are impacted by the abuse of the environment, those who are poor and marginalized, and the refugee, as well as those who are negatively affected by unjust economic systems. These, too, are areas where the Catholic Christian is impelled by the power of the Gospel to witness to Jesus Christ and His Gospel. It is the purpose of catechesis to draw us ever closer to Jesus and to a richer understanding of our Catholic faith which compels us to give witness and enlist others as witnesses to Jesus as well. I wish to join with the faithful of the Archdiocese, as your Archbishop, in recognizing those who give of themselves so generously in fulilling the call to witness to Jesus through the important ministry of catechesis in our parishes and our schools. I extend my gratitude and that of the whole Church of Newark to our catechists, our parish catechetical leaders and our Catholic school teachers and administrators and plege to them our support and our prayers. May God richly bless you for your witness to the Good news of Jesus Christ.
