5 Turning in Your Envelope Back in India where I grew up we don t have envelops to give contribution to the church. But every Sunday after homily couple of people will take plates and go around collecting offerings. Sometimes when the church has special collection for special purpose the priest himself comes down and takes the collection. Automatically the collection will be much more than usual because they know the priest sees what they are giving. As a child I thought that it was very interesting. My parents used to give us some coins to drop in the offering plate as well. I always thought of holding onto couple of coins that were given to me to give to the church but my parents made sure that I drop it all and taught us that it is our responsibility to give to the church. Giving to church you are giving to God. Every penny that falls into that basket is an offering to God. We should give to God what belongs to God. When I came to US I saw that there was envelop that people can use to give their offering and I said to myself, that s nice. Nobody will know how much I am giving.. But the fact is, God knows what we receive and what we give. St Francis of Assisi says, For it is in giving that we receive. Often we need to teach ourselves and others to give especially the parents should take special care to teach our children to give. Teach them to return to God from what they have received. Giving never makes you poorer rather richer in heart and in hand. In our parish, we instruct our children in Religious Education to come to church for mass every Sunday and to give to the offering in order to teach them the importance of their commitment to the community. In fact, for Catholics, the envelop is a very important symbol not a sacramental per se, but certainly a powerful reminder of our commitment to the community. Catholics obtain these offering envelopes through an expression of commitment to community, namely, the act of registering as a parishioner. It is very difficult to remain anonymous at a catholic parish. We are asked to be known to the community by our active participation in the life of the community. Now a days we have system of giving online which makes it convenient for regular giving but that itself doesn t mean that one become anonymous. The participation of the members in the life of the community makes the community alive and visible sign. We are not anonymous. We are members of a community. Fr. James Entregando su sobre En la India, donde crecí no teníamos sobres para contribuir a la Iglesia. Pero cada domingo después de la homilía, un par de personas tomaban un canasto y pasaban colectando ofrendas. A veces, cuando la Iglesia tiene colectas especiales para un propósito específico, el sacerdote mismo baja y recoge la colecta. Automáticamente la recaudación era mucho más de lo normal porque ellos sabían que el sacerdote mira lo que están dando. De niño, yo pensaba que era esto muy interesante. Mis padres solían también, darnos algunas monedas para depositarlas en la colecta. Yo siempre pensaba quedarme con algunas de las monedas que me daban para darlas a la Iglesia, pro mis padres se aseguraban que las daba todas, y nos enseñaron que es nuestra responsabilidad dar a la Iglesia. Al dar a la Iglesia le estas dando a Dios. Cada centavo que cae en la canasta es una ofrenda a Dios. Debemos darle a Dios lo que pertenece a Dios. Cuando vine a los Estados Unidos, me di cuenta que había sobres que las personas podían usar para dar su ofrenda, y me dije a mi mismo. me gusta, así nadie sabrá cuanto estoy dando. Pero, el hecho es que Dios sabe cuánto recibimos y cuanto damos. San Francisco de Asís dice, porque es dando como recibimos. A menudo, necesitamos enseñarnos a nosotros mismos y a otros a dar. Especialmente los padres deben enseñar cuidadosamente a sus hijos a dar. Enseñarlos a devolver a Dios de lo que ellos han recibido. Dar nunca te hace más pobre sino más rico de corazón y de mano. En nuestra parroquia, enseñamos a los niños en el programa de Educación Religiosa a venir a Misa todos los domingos y a dar ofrenda para enseñarles la importancia de compromiso con la comunidad. De hecho, para los católicos, el sobre es un símbolo muy importante no sacramental por decir pero ciertamente un poderoso recordatorio de nuestro compromiso a la comunidad. Los católicos obtienen estos sobres a través de una expresión de compromiso a la comunidad, es decir, el acto de registrarse como feligreses. Es muy difícil permanecer anónimo en una parroquia católica. Se nos pide que seamos conocidos a la comunidad por nuestra participación activa en la vida de la comunidad. 6 ProLife agencies thank SCB parishioners for October donations of baby care items Agencias ProVida le dan las gracias a los feligreses de San Carlos Borromoe por sus donaciones de articulos de bebé durante el mes de octubre Once again, the generous parishioners of St. Charles Borromeo have come through for babies! In a multiweek effort during Respect Life Month in October, the following items were donated to benefit three area ProLife agencies serving women in need on the front lines of our community: Life Choices Women's Clinic, Maggie's Place, and 1st Way Pregnancy Center. A whopping 61 total boxes of diapers or pullups were collected, plus three 800 count boxes of wipes, plus an additional 58 pks of wipes. There were also clothes (4 onesies, one outfit, 8 mother maternity clothes and a toddler jacket), 11 baby blankets (5 of them knitted), a baby swinging seat, baby strap carrier, 2 neck supports for car seat,4 bibs, 8 bottles, 2 bottle scrubbers, 1 sippy cup, and 3 food items. THANK YOU! In a thank you letter, Maggie s Place noted, We appreciate your support, it s good to know that we have community partners like you. In their thank you letter, Life Choices noted, The large supply of diapers and wipes to stock our Baby Boutique are an essential part of our mission to offer help and hope to our clients who are facing an unplanned pregnancy. This annual collection was cosponsored by the Knights of Columbus and a new group at St. Charles, Walking with Moms in Need. This group is an initiative starting throughout the Diocese of Phoenixgeared to help support Moms in need. Our group here will help our mothers here at St. Charles Borromeo by providing informationand resources.this initiative is a way to accompany our mothers in need, whether it is in the beginning stages of a pregnancy or throughout. We will be a source to help mothers find the resources that may be needed in whichever stage a mom is in, pregnancy, or additional help throughout. Although we can direct a mother in need we are not a pregnancy center. For more information, please contact the parish office. Una vez más, los generosos feligreses de San Carlos Borromeo han hecho lo posible por los bebés. Ayman Khair is representing about 180 Christian families from Bethlehem. These families have been dependent upon sales of their hand carved religious articles to tourists of the Holy Land. Due to the conflict in the Middle East and the Pandemic, tourism has been stopped completely since March 2, t is very important to support them at this critical time, since they have no income and there is no government to take care of them and help them. In order to survive, they have turned to Christian communities in the United State to purchase their articles. These hand carved religious articles are beyond description. Carved from wood of the sacred Olive tree, this workmanship has been traditional for these families for hundreds of years. It is hoped that through the efforts of Mr. Khair, these families who have little income and are able to stay living and survive in the Holy Land. Sadly enough, the Christian population dropped from 22 % to less than 2% in the last 20 years. Thank you in advance for your support.
