That is the setting for today s gospel and the question posed to Jesus by the Pharisees: Which commandment in the law is the greatest? Jesus quotes from the Old Testament Book of Deuteronomy: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. Jesus then adds a second: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus boils all of the laws into his one great commandment - love God and show your love for God by loving your neighbor. REFLECT AND RESPOND TO SCRIPTURE DIOCESAN APPEAL The Diocesan Appeal, previously called the Bishop s Appeal, is being run much different this year than previous years. There is no in-pew solicitation this year. All requests for donations will come directly from Albany. Some of you have probably already received a request to give to this appeal. Many of you have not because the solicitations are being sent out at various times through the end of the year. PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY This Sunday is Priesthood Sunday, a special day set aside to honor the vocation of priesthood. It is a day to reflect upon and affirm the role of the priesthood in the life of the Church as a central one.
