H S P VIRTUAL ADVENT FAMILY BLESSING LIVE WITH BISHOP DEELEY ADVENT SECTION ON THE DIOCESAN WEBSITE A special Advent section has been created on the Diocese of Portland s website and will be updated with new material, events, and opportunities. The section includes many useful features and resources, including a variety of prayers, blessings, and reflections; downloadable and interactive calendars; and event listings for the diocese. The section can be found at: www.portlanddiocese.org/advent. Bishop Robert Deeley will host a live, virtual, Advent prayer and blessing gathering for all Maine families on Sunday, December 12, at 5 PM. The live presentation, which shoulc last approximately ten minutes, will be available on Lifesize. There are three simple ways to access the blessing to which all are welcome to attend. View the login information at: www.portlanddiocese.org/ BishopFamilyBlessing. TODAY S MISSAL Our new Today s Missal copies have been distributed to the pews for the upcoming weeks. Since we have gone back to the original number, they can be kept in the pews with plenty for everyone to use. (There is also a limited number of small Advent prayer books available in the Narthex) The Holy Spirit Parish Office of Lifelong Faith Formation is pleased to bring exciting faith community and education events to the parish, entitled Journey in Faith adult formation with separate sessions for children. These events are geared toward adult faith formation, but involve parishioners of every age. These events are for all parishioners. We gather together for an opening prayer before breaking into groups for age appropriate faith formation. The adult session features the highly acclaimed program on The Sacraments with Bishop Robert Barron and is facilitated by an experienced adult catechist. We are called to form our faith as well as our community. Our mission as Catholics is to grow closer to Jesus, and to share His story with others. These Journey in Faith sessions will enable us to learn more while evangelizing one another as a faith family. They will also assist us in recognizing how we are called to bring the love of Jesus to our wider community. The next Journey in Faith event will take place on Sunday, December 12, from 35 PM, at St. Martha Church. The theme for the event is Baptism, facilitated by Dr. Matt McDonnell. Children will enjoy their own separate age appropriate activities related to Baptism. For a schedule of all of the Journey in Faith sessions, please visit the Formation page on the parish website at: https://www.holyspiritme.org/formation or contact the director of faith formation for the parish, Carolyn Houston, at 6465605, 9856252, or carolyn.houston@portlanddiocese.org. 2 Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament F, D 3 ~ St. Mary Church after 8 AM Mass ~ St. Martha Church after 9:15 AM Mass Adorers are invited to stay and pray until 9:30 and 10:30, respectively.

GRIEF SUPPORT FOR WIDOWS In his encyclical, Amoris Laetitia (Joy of Love), Pope Francis writes, Mourning the loss of a spouse has its challenges, but we Catholics believe Jesus never judges or abandons us as we struggle with our grief while journeying into a new life. Pope Francis continues to say that pastoral care is necessary to help the grieving person to realize that, after the loss of a loved one, they still have a mission to carry out. Holy Spirit Parish will start a grief support group for widows this Thursday, December 2, at 2 PM at St. Martha Church. COVID19 protocols will be in effect (masks and distancing). The facilitator will be Linda Pearson who is a recent widow and has completed a certified grief educator certification. For more information, please call Rosanne at 9856252 or Linda at 4233158.
